The same filming location was also used to depict Trenwith House in the 2015 BBC TV adaptation of Poldark.. Jilli Cooper had a terrific version of Riders in the 90s, and TV has since missed her ' bonkbusters' Critics felt that the Jilly Cooper novels were outdated and silly. It’s far from the truth, Cooper satirizes the upper middle class of the Cotswolds with an iron wit and has always understood humour, character and amusing anecdotes.
The differences are minor and of course the period and politics are more open
In many ways her work has become more akin to restoration comedy than Carry On, with characters who have more development and inner lives than you might expect. Now comes a rival from Disney that boasts an all-star cast and the good news is it’s a great watch, yes it’s full of naughty moments, gags and gags, even the occasional gag. Its triumph is that it has the budget and the time to do justice to the feel and spirit of the original book.
He does a really respectable job
Bella Maclean is brilliant in the central role of Tagie and Alex Hassel does a great job as Rupert, which no one in history could do because no one else could be the role. That Cooper created – part villain, part Adonis, part whimpering child. But the real stars here are the excellent character actors Emily Atack, Danny Dyer and Katherine Parkinson, all giving career-best performances.
Really liked it
The 80’s soundtrack is present throughout and makes it rivals. A real win for Disney. It’s fun, it’s frothy, but there’s a deep undercurrent that lifts it above an outstanding film and offers hope that we’ll see more from this team and this universe in the future.
